Disruptions, also known as service updates, are used by operators to let users know when there is a problem on their network.

Disruptions are distinct from real-time updates to stop visit times or vehicle locations. Disruptions are also distinct from journey cancellations - though a real-world disruption may cause a cancellation.

In Passenger Cloud, two types of service updates are available to operators:

  • Network alert
  • Line/Stop alert

Both current and future alerts are shown so customers can see disruptions that affect current and future journeys.

On timetable pages, only alerts that apply to the current date/time selection are shown. Disruptions that are restricted to a start/end time, rather than a full-day disruption, will only show when that time period is current.

If an operator has Travel Alerts enabled for their app, and their passengers have Travel Alerts enabled also, app users will receive personalised travel alerts based on their favourite lines and stops. Disruption notifications for these lines and stops are sent as soon as disruptions are created in Passenger Cloud, alerting users to unplanned network events. A disruption sends a notification only once (when it is created). Updates to the Disruption (e.g., adding services or changing dates) do not trigger new notifications to avoid sending users duplicate alerts. The travel alert notification will only show the title of the change. Users can then tap the notification to be taken into the app to view more information about the disruption.
