Service categories can be managed in Passenger Cloud. Navigate to Network > Lines > Categories

Service categorisation allows you to group lines or services into categories that are then presented to the customers on Websites and in the app, via the line list.

This helps your customers find the services most relevant to them - the categories may reflect geographic regions, service type (school, event), or other logical groupings so that a customer can navigate to the lines relevant to them more easily.

Using Service Categories

Until categories are created, your website and app will continue to show the line list. Once you create a category, all of your lines will be added to the Default category and displayed as root-level lines. These will appear on your line list page as follows;

  • Custom categories will appear at the top of the page
  • Root-level lines will appear below the custom categories

Creating categories

Categories are created by navigating to Network > Lines > Categories and then using the ‘Create a category’ option. You will be asked to provide the following;

  • Category name - this is the name your customers will see
  • URL - if you leave this blank, Passenger Cloud will automatically compile a safe URL using the Category name
  • Description - this is the description your customer will see
  • Logo - you can upload a logo to support branding, please note that whilst we don't have a specific size guide, your logo should be reasonably square rather than too long or tall
  • Colours
    • Foreground
    • Background
    • Foreground secondary
    • Background secondary

Please note that we only use the background colour behind a transparent logo image. The Foreground, Foreground secondary and Background secondary are not currently in use.

Once populated, you can save this and your category will be added to the category list in Passenger Cloud.

Managing categories

Once you have created categories, you can edit any details by clicking into the category, and then clicking 'Category details' in the left menu.

If you wish to delete a category, you can do so by clicking on the category page, and then using the ‘Delete category’ at the bottom of the page.

Reordering categories

Categories can be reordered up or down the list depending on their priority, using the drag-and-drop editor on the left of the line.

Managing lines within categories

You can add a line to a specific category, multiple categories or none at all.

Once a line is added to a category, you can add more lines, reorder them or delete them using the Add, remove or reorder button.

Deleting lines

Before deleting a line that is no longer in service, you will need to remove the line from all categories (including the root category) before you are able to delete the line.

FAQs

Q - What happens to Categories that don't have a line in?

A - They are hidden

Q - Can I have a line in a Custom category as well as shown in the Default root-level category?

A - Yes, lines can be shown in multiple custom categories, as well as the default root-level category.

Q - How do we deal with linked lines?

A - Where a line has been linked, we will bring this into the category. For example, if lines 1 and 2 are linked and line 1 is added to a category, line 2 will be brought in.

Q - What size should my logo be?

A - We don't have a specific size, but your logo should be reasonably square rather than too long or tall.

Q - Do I have to add a logo and description?

A - No, but it will look nice with branding

Q - How does the filter get affected?

A - The filter will behave as normal on the Routes & Maps page (searching across any line that is in a category). Filtering within a category will only return results that are in that category.

Q - Why does the filter not appear?

A - The filter will appear when there are more than 10 results

Q - How does a customer see their favourite lines?

A - As a further aid, if the user has favourited a line it will now be shown at the top of the main line list for quicker navigation.

Q - Where are the category colours displayed?

A - Category colours are displayed behind a clear logo using the Background colour. If you use a full-colour logo, this will override any Background colour set in the category.

Q - Does a new line get imported to Root Level by default?

A - Yes. Any new line that is imported in a TransXChange dataset is automatically imported to the root-level lines category.
